Playing With Yarn

It's been a long time!

It's been almost a month since I added anything to this blog. And it has in many ways been a busy one. I went down with my soap making friend Lori to The MN Knitter's Guild's Yarn Over. Yarn Over is the once a year educational and shopping event from the Guild. It's a great way to connect with customers, new folks and fellow vendors after a MN winter. Lori has been coming with me the last few years with her wonderful Handmade soap. I carry her soap in the shop and this gives people a chance to meet her. Lori is also a fellow Agility person. She has a Golden Retriever as a partner, way bigger then my Yorkie Girls.

I had Lori Ihnes' trunk show from her now out of print book, A Garden Stroll. And she let me bring it back to the shop to have on the walls until June 15th. Although the book is out of print, Lori and I still have a number of them. Lori is a MN designer and lives in the Twin City area. I love her book and the patterns. I also love the yarns that she has chosen to use for them. She uses one of our favorites, Rauma Garns. All of the patterns have flowers as a theme and most of them are women's garments. There are two children's patterns included in the book.

I have been busy trying to get caught up on unfished projects since also. I finished the children's Hausewoole, sweater. I used a Cabin Fever pattern and it looks great. I threw the sweater into the washer over the weekend to see how it washes. It came out beautiful and the yarn really softens up after washing. It is a 50/50 wool/acrylic yarn and comes in 100 gram balls. It has wonderful colors too.
Hauswolle has 218 yards and is $8.30.

I have two wool acrylic blends that I really like. Lazer from Erdahl Yarns is a 25% wool / 75% acrylic blend and comes in many colors. It also comes in 100 grams and can be knit at either 5.5 or 5 stitches per inch. It has 197 yards and costs $5.85.

What is really nice about these two yarns is that they wash up so beautifully. They are perfect for kids clothes and afghans, not bad for adult clothes either.
